Mentorship

In the early years, students are discovering who they are and how they fit into the world. Mentors provide young students with a strong foundation of trust and support, setting the tone for future growth. Students at this stage have mentors in their educators, as well as our speciality teachers and support staff. A mentor at this stage offers:

• Encouragement and confidence-building

• A positive role model to demonstrate kindness, responsibility, and faith

• Help in developing friendships and navigating social situations

• A safe, consistent presence in a time of rapid change

Students also participate as a Chapel Buddy in Kindergarten and fifth grade. Fifth grade students are paired with a kindergarten student to help them assimilate during elementary chapel, and to mentor them throughout their first year in elementary. 

In middle school, mentors play a vital role in guiding students through a time of rapid growth and transition. At Jackson Christian, mentors come in many forms—educators, coaches, and specialty teachers—all working together to encourage and support students academically, socially, and spiritually.

One of the key ways we foster mentorship is through our Cornerstone class, a dedicated time designed to build connection and community. Students are grouped by grade level and gender and meet with their Cornerstone teacher three times a week during a regular class period.

During Cornerstone, students:

• Engage in guided discussions led by a trusted teacher

• Participate in service projects that emphasize compassion and teamwork

• Reflect on and navigate the challenges of the week together

This intentional time provides students with a safe space to be heard, supported, and encouraged—strengthening their relationships with peers and deepening their walk with Christ.

As students enter high school, they face new challenges and responsibilities while beginning to plan for life beyond graduation. At Jackson Christian, mentors play a critical role in helping students navigate this important season of growth and decision-making.

Mentors include teachers, guidance counselors, coaches, and trusted staff members who invest personally in students’ lives. These relationships provide steady support in a time of increasing pressure and opportunity.

High school mentors help students by:

• Offering college and career guidance tailored to individual goals

• Modeling leadership, integrity, and responsibility

• Encouraging spiritual maturity and personal accountability

• Assisting students in balancing academics, extracurriculars, and relationships

Mentors serve as sounding boards and trusted advisors, equipping students to make wise, faith-centered decisions about their future. With consistent encouragement and Christ-focused mentorship, students are empowered to lead with confidence and purpose.
