We support student growth by providing:

• Appropriate academic placement

• Instruction in study skills, time management, and personal development

• Guidance in developing life skills that promote independence and success

• Mediation and encouragement to foster positive relationships among peers, teachers, and families

Our counselors also collaborate with classroom teachers to assess learning styles and make recommendations to support individual student success.

Counselors are responsible for administering and coordinating all standardized testing for students. We also assist parents and teachers in interpreting individual test scores to better understand student progress and potential.

Personalized Guidance for Every Student

Because each student is uniquely gifted, the College and Career Counseling program is individualized. Counselors walk alongside students as they:

• Explore career interests and college options

• Research universities, technical schools, and other postsecondary paths

• Prepare for and complete ACT testing

• Navigate the college and scholarship application process

NCAA & NAIA Eligibility

Student-athletes who wish to compete at the collegiate level must become certified through the NCAA Eligibility Center.

9th Grade: Laying the Foundation

• Meet with your counselor to map out a 4-year academic plan

• Get involved in extracurricular activities

• Begin community service (required for Bible class and graduation)

• Start building your resume of achievements and experiences

• Explore your strengths and begin thinking about career interests

10th Grade: Building on Momentum

• Focus on maintaining strong academic performance

• Take on leadership roles, especially through service opportunities

• Narrow extracurricular involvement to 2–3 areas of focus

• Take the ACT for Dual Credit eligibility

• Begin researching colleges and career paths

• Visit local campuses during breaks or summer

11th Grade: Digging Deeper

• Review your 4-year plan with your counselor

• Enroll in Dual Credit or advanced courses if eligible

• Keep your transcript strong—junior year grades matter

• Take (or retake) the ACT and prep with online tools or classes

• Make a list of potential colleges to explore

• Attend college rep visits on campus and local college fairs

• Schedule official campus tours with your family

12th Grade - Finalizing Your Future

• Schedule a meeting with your counselor (parents encouraged to attend)

• Finalize your list of colleges and submit applications

• Apply for TN Promise by early November

• Request transcripts and recommendation letters

• Apply for scholarships—many deadlines are in Nov/Dec

• Schedule and complete official College Visit Days

• Submit the FAFSA starting in October

• Notify the counseling office of college acceptances and scholarship offers

• Apply for housing and review financial aid packages

College Visit Days

• Juniors may take 1 excused College Visit Day

• Seniors may take 2 excused College Visit Days
