The Linda Tyler Early Learning Village
The Linda
Tyler Early
Learning Village
will be the home for senior and junior kindergarten students at Jackson Christian School.
Slated to open during the 2008-2009
school year, the 12, 321 square foot village built just to the north of
the Elementary building will house three senior kindergarten (5 and 6
year olds) and two junior kindergarten (4 and early 5 year olds)
classrooms. The classrooms are 860 square feet with a multi-purpose room
of 1,820 square feet. This will not be just another school building.
Students will be amazed at the two story atrium entrance with interactive
learning centers and the latest early learning technology.
When you enter the Village, you will
see computer stations that the children will use during group math time.
Each classroom will carry the theme of a village or community chosen by
the teacher. They will include a movie theater, fire station, pet
store, grocery store and ice cream parlor. These rooms will have
their own bathroom and sink area and shared storage space. Other
rooms in the village will be a civic center, barber shop, post office,
and a bakery with an oven for teachers to do their classroom cooking in
each week.
Handwriting Without Tears will be the curriculum used to
strengthen fine motor skills in a way that is fun and interactive through
play dough, wooden pieces to make letters, chalkboards, and crayons just
the right size for little fingers. The math curriculum will be Math-their-Way
using computer games and hands-on activities. Kindergarten reading
curriculum is Saxon reading. The students will learn
letters, sounds and writing in Junior Kindergarten. A new playground with
age appropriate equipment will also be part of the Village.
Mary Ramey, lead teacher, says, “We are very
excited about beginning the new program.
When the children walk in, they will see the
village theme and we hope it will feel very
inviting and exciting for them. The
technology, chosen curriculum and village
environment will challenge these students
and prepare them for kindergarten.
