Announcements: Welcome to Mrs. Holmes page!
Parents, What a GREAT year we are having! Can't believe that Grandparents Day is already here. I hope everyone had a wonderful day with their family. I want to thank ya'll for helping me have a fantastic bookfair. You always help me so much. We keep 30% of the take-in in cash which goes back into our AR program. I use this to buy the badges, prizes, and the end-of-the-year awards. JCS now has every AR test that is available!! Many parents have asked about an AR list on our web site. Go to Quick Links on the web page and pull down AR. Follow the instructions. You can search by title, author, subject, points, and grade level. Thursday AR is going well. I have a large number of student who stay and read with me. There will NOT be AR this Thursday, October 2, due to me being gone for my daughter's wedding and Mrs. Tucker working in the consignment sale (please help with that any way you can). Mrs. Tucker hopes to have it for me Thursday, October 9. If she cannot she will send out an e-mail. For our new parents, I apologize for not having told you sooner about this program. I stay every Thursday afternoon until 5:30 for students who wish to read and test. Most students who stay are 2-4 graders. Some first graders do elect to stay, but they must be reading completely independently simply because I have 35 or more students who do this and it isn't possible for me to give students attention one on one. Check with your child's teacher about them being able to do this on their own. If they come and seem to be having trouble, I will let you know. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. Because I have so many avid readers, I have divided the students into two different groups (students whose last name begins with A-K and students whose last name begins with L-Z) to come on Thursday afternoons. The schedule for this is: October 9:A-K; October 16:L-Z; October 26:A-K; November 6:L-Z; November 13: A-K; November 20:L-Z; December 4:L-Z; December 11:A-K; December 18:L-Z. Elementary students have AR shirts on which they put badges they have earned. These may be purchased for $20. Students may where these shirts on designated Thursdays or on Fridays as their spirit wear. We will wear these shirts on October 16, November 20, and December 18. Thank you for all you do for me and JCS! As most of you know, we reward the students immediately after passing an AR test. I need your help with these small rewards. If you would like to help in this endeavor, please send the prize indicated for your child's grade. (But anything is appreciated!) Kindergarten - Specialty pencils, party favors, and stickers. First Grade - Snack size candy of your choice. Second Grade - Individually wrapped chewable candy. (Example: tootsie rolls, starbursts, taffy, etc.) Third Grade - Individually wrapped hard candy. (Example: peppermints, jolly ranchers, life savers, etc.) Fourth Grade - Package of regular candy bars of your choice. Fifth Grade - Package of regular candy bars of your choice. Please continue to send General Box Tops and Campbell Soup Labels. This month (October) we receive DOUBLE for our General Box Tops, please send any that you have already saved. I will be working on them as soon as I return from the wedding. Campbell Soup Labels have changed. We no longer save the front labels. We now must cut the UPC label with the picture of the little boy. Many of you have been cutting the front part off to help me. I really appreciate that, but I wanted to let you know that we no longer cut the front. Please send the box tops and soup labels with your child to the elementary library. A big thank you to teach and every one of you!!!!! JCS has the best parents anywhere!!!!!!
