students enjoyed "A Piece of Pi" on
Pi Day (3/14).

-- The earliest known reference to
pi is a Middle Kingdom papyrus
scroll,
written around 1650 BC.
--The first 100 digits of pi were
first calculated in 1701.
--In 1949, a digital computer first
calculated pi to 2037 digits.
It took 70 hours!
--Simon Plouffe was listed in the
1975 Guinness Book of World Records
for
reciting 4,096 digits of pi from
memory.
--With the use of computers, pi has
been calculated to over 51 billion
decimal places. |
